What is Screen Printing?

Most of us probably own a screen printed T-Shirt. Screen Printing is probably what you think of when you think about t-shirt printing. It’s the traditional go-to for most people. Each colour in the design needs to be separated and burned to individual screens. This is why we are always asking how many colours are in the design. Ink is transferred to the shirt through the screen. Screen Printing is great for Teams, organizations, and businesses that know how many T-Shirts they need exactly. In today’s market, we usually see businesses opt for screen printing because it’s extremely cost-effective for printing large custom printed orders.
To create the stencil, we begin by coating a fine mesh screen with an emulsion. Once dried, we “burn” your artwork into each screen by exposing your design to bright light. We now have a screen that is ready to go for each colour in the design. Printing on to dark coloured materials will cost slightly more per item as we have to lay down a white base first.

Why Choose Screen Printing?

Screen printing is great for large orders, we would only suggest screen printing if the design, quantity needed and deadline permits. Screen printing has much longer lead times. It’s great if your not in a rush. We Screen print promotional Tote bags, Promo T-Shirts and much more. Screen printing has it’s limitations as to what products and materials can be printed. The fast run times can make it a very economical option for Bulk orders. However, the labour-intensive setup can make it expensive for small runs.
If you have a 1 to 4 colour design and you need more than 50 then we would suggest screen printing. We hope to guide you through the different print processes. Read our recent post on which print method is right for you.
